Humbug

New Job = Fewer posts!

Just as I was getting into full swing with blogging I had to go and get a new job that requires 7 hours of standing every day. By the time I get home I go straight to bed due to sore legs and droopy eyes! I do love this job though. Meeting 60 new people everyday! Good for connections =]

So! I have started to move back into my room ( no pictures quite yet....) and plan to be 100% moved in by Sunday! The color I picked has really opened up the space making it seem a lot lighter and bigger =]
I just can't wait to put up all my wall art!

Lately I have been falling in love with unique wallpaper, wall art and wall embellishments. Walls are like canvases...you can do soo much with them! A masterpiece/focal point can easily be created with a little bit of imagination.

Its all about adding textures or creating an illusion that really attracts visitors!

Day #2

SUCCESS!
Although I didn't find doing the trim anymore soothing, I loved how the color went up so quickly! Seeing each stroke of color go on the wall made me very excited for the moment where I could step back and see the full masterpiece. Now all I have left to do is to move back in and organize everything.

Pictures soon to come! =]

Day 1

Priming is the worst! Took 2 hours to do 2 coats (lets just say I have lots of trim that had to be done) and so I am extending the painting job to a second day where the color will go up! Painting around the holidays really makes me feel like I should be using red, green and white paint =P.

I have discovered that I prefer using my left hand to do the trim (even though I am right-handed). Don't ask why! Just seems to be easier. Also, I tried different ways of holding the brush and the best way is to,infact, treat it like a pencil! It is alot more comfortable and doesn't use unecessary muscles.

No painting wounds yet! Althought I did get shocked a few times while taping the outlets. I'm hoping to finish in under 2 hours tomorrow (possible? We shall see). While I wait for the paint to dry I will post some really good holiday decorating tips I have found in my Style at Home magazine (which I recommend to those who rely heavily on ideas from pictures...you can find some amazing photos in this magazine!). I am leaving the decorating up to my Mom this year but I have reserved the dinner table for my personal touch when it comes to our Christmas dinner!

Well, I will call it a night to clear my system of the horror from trims and the smell of paint!

Painting Day Tomorrow!

Tomorrow will be a painting adventure! I am starting to build my repertoire of painting experiences (so far I have painted a small bedroom and 2 decks!) and so in honor of taking on another challenge, I am going to do my research and post the Top 10 Painting Tips everyone should know!
TOP 10
#1 - You'll enjoy the job more if you get everything together at the start. Organize a tool station in the middle of the area you'll be working in. Gather together your paint, brushes, rollers, hammers, screwdrivers, plastic bags, plastic wrap, rags, paint can opener, and drop cloths (about.com:Interior decorating)

#2 - Don't try to get everything done in one day. Use the day before painting day to gather furniture in the center of the room, patch cracks and holes, put blue painter's tape around doors and windows, and cover wall and ceiling light fixtures (light bulbs removed, of course!) with large plastic bags.(about.com:Interior Decorating)

#3 -  Strip the room, and cover any remaining furniture and the floor with dropcloths. For the best paint adhesion, wash walls, doors and trim with a light detergent solution, rinse well with a damp cloth and let dry thoroughly. Sand any glossy finishes, such as doors, window sashes and trim, and remove dust with a tack cloth. "Sixty per cent of the work is proper preparation," says Jerry. "Sanding and plastering are just as important as painting." (http://www.styleathome.com/how-to/painting/painting-tips-paint-with-ease/a/563)

#4 -  Hold your paintbrush correctly. I've seen so many people hold their paintbrushes like a tennis racket. Some people get it basically right and hold it by the thin part of the handle like a pencil. But that will tire your hand out fast. A paintbrush should be held like a pencil, but down near the metal part by the bristles. The part of the brush that gets suddenly narrower should fit in around where the meaty part of your forefinger and thumb come together. (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/johnmont/archive/2004/11/29/272007.aspx)

#5 - To neatly paint up to a line where two edges or colors meet, called "cutting in," use a trim brush with beveled bristles (the end of the brush resembles a chisel). Paint five or six strokes perpendicular to the edge of the ceiling or the wall. Next, smooth over these strokes with a single, long stroke, painting out from the corner first, then vertically. Where the wall and ceiling come together, use downward strokes on the wall first followed by smooth horizontal strokes.(http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/how-to-paint-room.htm)

#6 - Professional painters also suggest starting with a roller stroke that moves away from you. On walls, that means the first stroke should be up. If you roll down on the first stroke, the paint may puddle under the roller and run down the wall. In addition, be careful not to run the roller so rapidly across the wall that centrifugal force causes it to spray.(http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/how-to-paint-room.htm)

#7 - If your room has a large surface area, any color that you paint will appear darker, so when choosing the paint’s color, get a color that is lighter than what you intend to paint with in the first place. Bright and clean colors will appear darker or lighter depending on your room’s light and other surrounding color.(http://www.painterclick.com/tips_on_painting_a_room.htm)

#8 - For the best finish, it’s preferable to keep a wet edge between sections – paint one section of wall with the roller, then use the paintbrush for areas the roller can’t reach before moving on to the next section. This will also help prevent “missed spots” if painting with a similar color. (http://www.essortment.com/all/roompainting_rcai.htm)

#9 -  When removing the outlet and switch covers, put the screws back into the holes so they don’t get lost. You can also put the covers and screws in a zip top sandwich bag(http://www.livingonadime.com/articles/10-tips-painting-a-room.html)

#10 - if you make a mistake, just paint over it and try again(http://www.essortment.com/all/roompainting_rcai.htm)

Ode to Summer

-painted by Moi, my first watercolor painting in a long time
As I spent 1hr on the Deerfoot (due to icy roads) I couldn't help but ponder about the days where snow wasn't in sight and the sun gladly revealed itself. I always thought I enjoyed winter because of the magical lights and glistening snow but the chaos that takes place on the road and in the malls is soo overbearing! Makes me want to spend my days in front of the fire reading my Style at Home and House & Home magazines!

Brrrrrr

Since the temperature is getting further into the negatives (-20 deg. celsius today!), I have decided to finish off my winter version of a headband(Not quite sure what the name for this is...but I will refer to it as my winter headband for now)! I did knit it myself and put the sequins on with needle in hand. I am very pleased with the outcome. It is bulky, comfy, and still stylish while keeping my lovely ears warm! It will definitely make a statement.

DAMASK

As I let my eyes wander every time I step into a home furnishing store, I seem to come across this very botanical and regal design. It seems to be getting very popular these days and I was dying to know the name of the pattern! Alas, I have found it..and the name perfectly fits. DAMASK. To me, it sounds very aged and empirical! Just like the design. So, if I haven't already stated, I am in love with this pattern (hence the design of my bedding) and I want to share it with the world.

You can use it...
-As wallpaper (it is pretty bold so if you do it in a darker color, try containing it to an accent wall)
-drapery
-upholstery (adds elegance to any armchair...add bonze studs to continure the effect!)
-rug (looks best when the pattern is large/more spread out so it doesn't provide clutter for your floor)
-throw pillows
-CAKES! very popular design for wedding cakes!

I just bought a few cellophane bags with this design on it but in red to hold my christmas goodies that I will be passing on to my friends! =]

A piece of fabric can go a long way...

I got this beautiful comforter from Bed Bath & Beyond and it is 100% organic. It came in a bag that was the same material and so I didn't want to put it to waste! I had 2 blank canvases just staring at me and so I got my stitch ripper out and went at it! A few hours later I came up with these two pieces of art for my newly decorated room.

Recent Creations

I have been getting into DIY projects and so I am sharing what I've done so far!

This is the jewelry I've made. The necklace is made out of big silver beads and cream ribbon. The bracelet is actually a strip of thick elastic used for sewing covered in fabric. Then I added some button accessories and used the old fashioned technique of velcro to connect the two ends together. It is VERY light and comfy for a bracelet!

These are the hairbands I have made. For the black and white bands I just added the gold and silver studs. For the shimmery Silver one, I wrapped some silver & gold cord around the head band, alternating colors. Then I added 2 dotted feathers with pearls immersed within them. For the large feathered band, I took felt and backed it with black cardstock, attached an assortment of feathers to it then added gold studs in random order. I have seen these types of hairbands all over, priced really high. These projects cost little to nothing! =]

This is a belt (or I sometimes double it up to use as a headband) I made out of Ribbon and a strand of embroidery.I just sewed it on by hand!

So head cord were huge a bit ago and instead of paying $20 I decided to make my own. I had old t-shirts laying around and so I cut stips and braided them together. I also incorporated some gold cord!

I feel as if anything can turn into a DIY project! I do find myself making things that would probably end up collecting dust because I just have so many creations and I keep on making more!! Now I just need to figure out what to do with them =P

So this coming weekend I am transforming my room into something new! I have new bedding,
lots of throw pillows, 3 new wall accessories and now it is time to paint the walls =]

My color palette is: Black,Cream,Silver/Grey,Light purple

Welcome to my OLD room... was once fond of but then came the urge to actually have a set
design, one that is pulled together by a theme, color palette or vibe.

Now for the new and improved...

I fell in love with this picture when I saw it! VERY glamorous!
It sets the vibe this room will hopefully portray.

Here is my collection of throw pillows! You can never have enough =]

MY BEDDING!
I LOVE the Regal design that is on my bedding and that is where my inspiration is coming from.

It makes me want to keep things elegant and girly!!
-Bed Bath & Beyond

I am happy with the purple accent since it is my favorite color. It always catches my eye and intrigues me with how unique and charismatic it is.

My wall color is called Stormy Monday from Benjamin Moore. It is a medium grey with a purple undertone which will pull into the purple accent while making my white furniture (all Ikea by the way) POP.

The finished product will be revealed this weekend!
Now to decide on the accessories =]

Requested to paint a silhouette. I decided to switch it up, making the tree white and the background black...makes the tree 'pop' ! Added some orange/brown accents and grey texture to the tree bark.
All in all, I am quite satisfied with the outcome, but let me tell you, the
swirls were the hardest part to paint! Thankfully I have numerous paintbrushes that come in many different brush sizes.
My very first black & white painting!!

Attempt #2

I now find myself crawling back to the concept of blogging.
Previously, my blog was devoted to events in my life which,in the end, became tedious. Instead of blogging about all the corners of my existence I have decided to focus in on one area of what makes me, well...ME!
Lately I have been having my usual 'Creative Rushes' ,but this time it seems to be sticking. So I have decided that now my blog will consist of things that bring on these 'rushes', my personal creations, and interiors that fuel my passion (as I am heading into a Bachelors of Interior Design).
I hoist my cup as I say 'Cheers to second attempts and hope for the future'
